World Wide Weekend - Part 4

This weekend marked the last regular season games and the second Cup semi in France and the second games in the Italian play-off series. Only one previously postponed game in the Spanish league as they continue April 24th.

Last regular season games in France

Those who tuned in on our Live channel (IHW TV: Live) on Saturday saw Anglet get their 18th win of the season to enter the play-offs undefeated and earning a bye for the first round. They played Caen at home this weekend and had no trouble with the young team whatsoever. Final score 8-1. Villeneuve, with J. Chavira and Osterkamp, defeated Rouen on the same day, 14-4, in their last game of the regular season. Villeneuve finished 7th in the standings, so all that was left to win was the cup. They played their semi-final game on Sunday against Rethel, meeting their LA Pama Cyclones team mate Doran. After gaining a 3-1 lead Villeneuve couldn’t hold on and lost 5-3 after a series of penalties. Rethel will now play against Anglet in the Cup final on April 16th. A game Chavira and Osterkamp will not witness, as they will return home this week. In another game Nice and Toulouse battled for the right to stay in the Elite league with Nice coming out on top, 3-1. In the remaining games Rethel tied Angers 4-4 and Grenoble defeated Amiens 5-3. Anglet and Rethel can now sit back and watch what teams will come out of the first two series: Amiens versus Caen and Grenoble versus Angers. We’ll keep you posted.

Italian play-offs continue

After the first play-off games last week, the series continued this weekend with game two and if needed a third game on Tuesday. Asiago was not able to upset Trieste (6-4 loss) and is out of the race after the first round. Trieste will meet Ferrara, which won their second game against Arezzo 4-1 after they lost their first game last week. In the third game last Tuesday they won again, 7-5, to complete the comeback. Padova won their second matchup against Vicenza 4-3 to advance to the second round. They will meet Milano 24 in the next round as they defeated Civitavecchia on Saturday (5-3) to tie it up and again on Tuesday (10-2) to advance.

Mallorca keeps winning in Spain

Mallorca needed to play previously postponed game against Tenerife this weekend and had no problem doing so. Sotlar with four goals and five helpers and Tallo with two goals and three helpers contributed to the 14-2 victory for the islanders. The Spaniards continue on April 24th, with two games remaining in their season. Check the Spanish standings and keep in mind Valladolid and Espanya will meet in their last game.
